With new technology, we have the capability to read stories on kindles, the internet, and even our smartphones. By purchasing eBooks, or electronic books, instead of the traditional page-turner, we save money and trees. It takes less effort to convert a book to an electronic copy one time than to print four hundred pages for every one person who wants a copy. People have grown accustomed to new, easy, and convenient ways to do things. So, swapping a book with a digital version sounds like a good idea and I see a lot of potential for future technology.
Personally, I prefer holding an actual book in my hand and flipping the pages with my fingers. I like feeling accomplished, after reading the very last page of the heavy book. I like the smell of a new book. I like letting the pages fly under my thumb all in a few seconds. I really don’t know if I’ll ever want to give up any of that but saving trees is an excelent reason to change.
John Biggs timeline predication of the future of books:
Caitlin! I find your blogs very kooool :] I agree with you on your 2nd paragraph. Just reading a book on an ipod or computer doesn't feel right. I much prefer actually handling the book like you said :]
ReplyDeleteI agree with your second paragraph. I would much rather read with a book in my hand, any day, than having to read off of electronics. It just isn't the same, and a book makes me more happy. It may save trees to not use paper for books, but if everyone turns to doing so many things on the computer including reading, don't you think that will give people vision problems? Besides, sitting down with a book tends to relax me and bring me into the world of books easier than sitting at a computer reading the same thing. The screen instead of the paper just ruins the experiance. I doubt that I'll ever turn to electronics to read, and be satisfied.
